Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and ship and cannon / Porto Bello, ex-Adams. AC-PBvi16W. 17.73 grams; 40 mm. Gem UNC, among the finest examples in the Adams Collection in terms of strike and preservation, all the flat surfaces bright and lustrous and the struck details contrastingly darker (fairly high level of tungsten content), apparently acquired a few years after publication of Adams-Chao, else it surely would have been the plate piece. XRF: 38.42% copper, 52.03% zinc, 5.62% lead, 2.36% tungsten. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), acquired from Christopher Eimer in 2013.
Estimate: 750 - 1500 USD
