Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and Brown / Porto Bello, ex-Adams, ex-Stuart. AC-PBvb1A. 15.20 grams; 38 mm. Choice example of a scarce variety, the details all sharp and full against lustrous, light olive-brass fields, fully UNC and worlds nicer than the plate piece in Adams-Chao (since Adams did not acquire this piece till seven years after publication), with slightly more tin content than most. XRF: 41.25% copper, 51.50% zinc, 5.21% lead, 1.09% tin. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag) and to the Richard Stuart Collection (Sedwick Auction 22, with original lot-tag 1254).
