Great Britain, small copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and Lezo / Porto Bello, ex-Adams. AC-PBvl5D. 5.86 grams; 28 mm. Dark XF with some surface oxidation on reverse, more tin content than most, a fine variety that Adams-Chao says came "from a sophisticated shop" and "no doubt acted as a model from which many of its peers were copied." XRF: 45.67% copper, 45.94% zinc, 6.50% lead, 1.13% tin. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), acquired from Richard Margolis in 1983.
