Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and Fort Chagre / Porto Bello, ex-Adams (plate). AC-FCv9I. 11.27 grams; 37 mm. Clearly scarce as Adams-Chao had to resort to this example with small hole at top of obverse / bottom of reverse for its plate piece, probably because of its choice condition (AU-) and well-struck details, light olive brown in color. XRF: 38.45% copper, 53.59% zinc, 6.04% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 148 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao.
Estimate: 300 - 450 USD
