Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1741, Vernon / Cartagena, ex-Adams, ex-Chao, ex-Ferrari. AC-CAv7H. 14.78 grams; 41 mm. Brassy XF with much original color but somewhat weak strike (especially the reverse), evidence of a die failure "accounting for this variety's rarity" (Adams-Chao), with only four examples reported. XRF: 42.15% copper, 50.64% zinc, 5.70% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag) and to the Fernando Chao and Jorge Ferrari Collections.
