Colonial America, bronze medal, (1775), William Penn / Deeds of Peace, PCGS AU50. Betts-531. 40mm. Obverse: bust of William Penn facing right, WILLIAM PENN. above, B.1644 D.1718 below, and L.P. (for designer Lewis Pingo) at 4 o'clock. Reverse: Penn with walking stick shaking hands with a Native American, BY DEEDS OF PEACE above, PENSYLVANIA / SETLED [sic] / 1681 in exergue. A memorial medal struck to commemorate Penn and his relations with the Delaware Native Americans. Though this is the bronze example, its unusual surfaces appear dark with silvery patches; light wear on the high points with some surface marks on the bust. Note: the Betts number on the slab label is incorrect.
