Obverse: bust of Abraham Lincoln facing right, legend encircling ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENT UNITED STATES., BARBER below truncation. Reverse: MARCH 4, 1861. / TO / APRIL 15, 1865. / EMANCIPATION / PROCLAIMED / JAN. 1, 1863. / MEDAL SERIES OF THE / U.S. MINT. / J. POLLOCK 1871 DIRECTOR. in simple wreath. Edge: plain. A very popular medal struck by the US Mint to honor Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation issued just eight years prior. Dark brown surfaces with hints of burgundy tones, exceptional high-relief bust rendering of Lincoln crafted by William Barber, with a few minor contact marks appropriate for the grade.
