Charlotte, North Carolina, Bank of Charlotte, $20 contemporary counterfeit, Oct. 8, 1853, serial 702, pp A, rare, PMG VG 10 net. Haxby-NC5C14; Pennell-400CN. This Charlotte, North Carolina bank saw plenty of counterfeiting with its higher denominations during the 1850s. Apparently, the counterfeits circulated quite heavily as this is one of just three examples (all counterfeits) in the PMG census and with only one finer in Fine 15.
