World War II "short snorter" consisting of a Panama, Banco Central de Emision, 1 balboa, series of 1941, serial 002514, "Arias" note and a USA, $1 silver certificate, series 1935A, serial W61152234B, very rare. Pick-22a (Panama), 416a (USA). Extremely rare World War II-era short snorter featuring a Panama "Arias" balboa note taped to a United States series 1935A silver certificate. Short snorters were popular souvenirs created by servicemen throughout the war; notes from the various countries the soldier traveled to would be signed by friends they served with, then taped together into a long chain as a remembrance piece. There are plentiful examples of short snorters from World War II but this is the first we've seen with a Panamanian balboa note, issued for only seven days in Panama, used in the chain. Two signatures are seen on the balboa (one noted with "Halifax" below) while the silver certificate is covered in numerous autographs and notes: SHORT SNORTERS G.H. HAM NATAL, BRAZIL June 21, 1942 on the back and B15 CHAPTER 25APR44 / MIAMI TO PANAMA CANAL ZONE on the front. Both notes are fairly well-circulated VF or so with rust stains on the balboa and a margin piece missing on the silver certificate. Interesting and unique piece of WWII history.

Estimate: 1000 - 1500 USD
