USA (Philadelphia mint), Capped Bust half dollar, 1828, NGC Shipwreck Effect / SS New York. Our first time offering this design from the SS New York. Like the prior lot, the coins recovered from the SS New York were held by passengers and crew members aboard. Though the saltwater corrosion is readily apparent, ample detail remains with a bold date, complete eagle, and even LIBERTY fully visible; the quality of this piece is above average for coins from the SS New York. Recovered from: S.S. New York, sunk in 1846 in the Gulf of Mexico
