USA (San Francisco Mint), 50 cents Seated Liberty, 1856-S, PCGS AU 55 ("top pop"), with pinch of gold. Tied with just five others for finest known from the SS Central America in the PCGS census. This is a "Wow!" coin in hand, exhibiting deep gunmetal-gray toning throughout over lustrous surfaces, fully detailed with minimal evidence of circulation, only a few small deposits on the reverse to indicate its 157 years at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Housed in a special PCGS slab with a pinch of gold (about 1.5 grams) from the shipwreck, the label hand-signed by chief scientist Bob Evans, also with promotional cardboard box. Recovered from: S.S. Central America, sunk in 1857 in deep water off North Carolina
Estimate: 2500 - 3750 USD
