Philippines (under US administration), 1 peso, 1936, Murphy and Quezon. KM-178. 19.72 grams. Rare type from the Manila Bay "treasure" (a hoard of silver pesos and 50 centavos plus a few bronze medals from the Philippines' treasury dumped into Manila Bay in early 1942 as the invading Japanese Imperial army approached the capital). Very few Murphy-Quezon pesos have been recovered from the bay, much less any in as good of a condition as this example. Fully detailed and silvery AU/Mint State with spots of surface porosity, some cleaning marks on the reverse. Recovered from: "Manila Bay treasure," dumped off the Philippines in 1942
