Mexico City, Mexico, 1 real, Charles-Joanna, "Late Series," assayer S to right, mintmark M to left (M-S), very rare, NGC AU details / environmental damage. Nesmith-76; Cal-67; S-M8; KM-9. 3.29 grams. A Charles-Joanna collection is not complete without coinage from the rarest "Late-Series" assayer S. This is the only mintmark-assayer combination (M-S) known to exist in this denomination. Interestingly, assayer-S coins were not found on the "Golden Fleece wreck." This example is probably a land burial, hence the staining, but with full legends and interiors, bits of sedimentation on edges. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage (stated on label). Accompanied by original tag or holder.
Estimate: 700 - 1000 USD
