Potosi, Bolivia, gold bust 2 escudos, Charles III, 1779 PR, NGC XF 40, finest and only example in NGC census. Janson-70.2; Cal-1655; KM-57; Fr-4. In contrast to their peninsular analogues, the lower-denomination gold bust coins of Potosi were struck in small numbers and are elusive to collectors today. The present piece, attractively red-toned, has trivial marks on the obverse but a bold and well-preserved reverse, with hints of luster.
