Costa Rica, 8 reales, circular hole-punch and Carrillo "star" countermark (Type I, 1841-42) on a Lima, Peru, 8 reales, 1836 MT, very rare, PCGS VG8, c/m VF details. KM-24. With ample but even wear, darkly toned around details, the countermark full, this is a rather competent example of a very rare and typically heavily circulated issue (named for dictator Braulio Carrillo Colina), with blatant hole where a plug was removed to pay the fee for the coin's countermarking, after being test-punched below and to the left of the Y.
