France (Paris mint), copper essai 5 francs, 1848, NGC MS 62 BN, finest and only example in the NGC census. Mazard-1285 (obv) / 1265 (rev). Choice prooflike surfaces in even copper color overlain with beautiful peacock toning, a scarce muling of obverse and reverse designs from a prolific series of essais in 1848.
