This Waterlow and Sons design is among the most popular word banknotes and has certainly found itself in the pantheon of the paper money collecting hobby as no Latin America collection can truly be complete without an example of this renowned design showing Da Vinci's Mona Lisa at center.
It is a note synonymous with artistry, and part of the Series B issue for the Banco Internacional of Costa Rica. The design was issued from 1931 to 1936 when the bank transformed into the National Bank of Costa Rica. Given it's short time frame of circulation, not many pieces have survived and for examples anywhere remotely close to this nice a state of preservation, the demand far exceeds the supply.
