COSTA RICA. Banco Internacional de Costa Rica. 10 Colones, 1919. P-175a. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Dated January 4, 1919. This note is an anomaly of survival in this condition. Five notes have been encapsulated by PMG for this catalog number; three are in VF 25, one in VF 20, and this sensational survivor in Gem 66EPQ. This note offers qualities leaps & bounds above the other survivors in PMG holders. Unquestionably original paper is preserved on this piece, which shows off flashy colors and intricate design details compliments of American Bank Note Company. The paper displays an eye-catching multi colored underprint, which quickly grabs the attention of anyone viewing this note.

The design at center is of a coffee harvest, and it is depicted in such great detail that once could almost imagine themselves amongst the workers. This craftsmanship, compliments of the engraver, bring us back to a by-gone era when such detailed designs were commonplace on banknotes. The back of the note also displays incredible lathe work, which is highlighted by dark gray ink. Survivors of equally rare notes in this condition that offer such elegant appeal are usually tightly held onto, so collectors will certainly visit this opportunity with urgency. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.

From the Scott Lindquist Collection.

Estimate: $10000 - $15000
