Dated January 1st, 1944. Series B. Out of 81 notes graded by PMG for this popular variety, this is the only example available to collectors in a PMG Gem holder. The next highest graded note is in an AU 55EPQ grade, so for those top tier collectors seeking to upgrade or acquire a Top Pop 10 Pound Palestine note, this is not an opportunity that should be passed up. High caliber notes such as this example are tightly held onto, and only enter public sales when collections are liquidated.

The British Mandate for Palestine came about in 1918, when the Great War ended. The Ottoman Empire collapsed, and the British were "given" a dual mandate by the inhabitants of Palestine and the international community to govern over the lands of Palestine. This was affirmed by the League of Nations on April 25, 1920. Areas from the original lands conquered by the British Expeditionary Force and their Allies were broken off and given away, such as lands east of the Jordan River (Kingdom of Jordan). British rule lasted until May 15, 1948, when it was to be returned to the United Nations. At midnight on May 14, 1948 the State of Israel declared its independence.

This Gem offers sensational color and quality throughout. Finding examples of this denomination in circulated grades can be difficult, but finding an uncirculated example is hard, and a Gem is unheard of. The front of the note depicts the Crusader's Tower at left, located at Ramla. At lower right is a watermark of an Olive Sprig. On the back of the note is David's Tower, located at Jerusalem. The primary design on the obverse is comprised of a dark purple/blue color, and the undertint is light green with an orange guilloche at center. The design on the reverse is printed in a similar dark blue/purple color as the obverse, but the undertint is in a yellow color. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
