'Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Mustazhir. AH 487-512 / AD 1094-1118. AV Dinar (26.3mm, 4.24 g, 3h). Madinat al-Salam mint. Dated AH 491 (AD 1098/9). Reverse field: citing the caliphal heir 'Umdat al-Dawla. Jafar A.MS.491; Album B266; ICV 464. Flan crease, some weakness in centres. Good VF. Very rare.

During every year between AH 491-496, three different types of dinar were struck at Baghdad: one purely 'Abbasid, another citing the caliph with the Great Seljuq ruler Barkiyaruq, and the third citing the caliph with the Barkiyaruq's Great Seljuq rival Muhammad.
