Fatimids. al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. AH 386-411 / AD 996-1021. AV Dinar (20.4mm, 4.06 g, 10h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 387 (AD 997). Four-line legends in the centres and double marginal legends on both sides. Nicol 1208 = Qatar 2496 (same dies). Edge shaved, minor marks. Near VF. Very rare, only one specimen recorded by Nicol.

This very rare type was only struck at the very start of al-Hakim's reign and was discontinued after AH 387. It bears additional verses from the Qur'an which translate as 'The laws of your Lord are perfect in truth and justice and his laws cannot be changed; he is all-seeing and all knowing' (6:115) and 'Are they so jealous of others for what God in His generosity has given to them? So We had given the Book and the Law to Abraham's family, and given them great power' (4:54).
