Fatimids. al-Mustansir billah. AH 427-487 / AD 1036-1094. AV Quarter-Dinar (14.8mm, 0.91 g, 7h). Filastin mint. Dated AH [4]36 (AD 1044/5). Cf. Nicol 2083 (a quarter-dinar with similar legends but lacking a legible date). Clipped. Good VF. Of this highest rarity, apparently unpublished and believed unique.
Fatimid quarter-dinars of al-Mustansir from the mint of Filastin are extremely rare. This previously unrecorded coin shows that their designs followed those of contemporary full dinars; the legends on the present coin are similar to those on full dinars struck at Filastin in this year (Nicol 2066), while full and fractional dinars of Filastin dated AH 454 also have similar legends (Nicol 2079, 2080).
