Umayyad Caliphate, Silver coinage. AR Dirham (28.2mm, 2.59 g, 7h). Albanaq (al-Niq) mint. Dated AH 89 (AD 707/8). Klat 649 (same reverse die); al-'Ajlan p.139, 10. VF. Extremely rare.
Formerly read as 'al-Niq', Album has recently proposed the reading 'Albanaq.' He suggested that this was 'probably equivalent to Alvank (Albania) in the Caucasus, not to be confused with Albania in southeastern Europe' (Album p. 40, note 74), and this interpretation has been adopted here.
