KINGS OF MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes, 306-283 BC. Stater (Gold, 17 mm, 8.66 g, 4 h), Amphipolis, 294-293. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with a coiled serpent. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTPIOY Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; at Nike's feet to left, ZETA; to right, monogram of ΕΘ. HGC 3, 1, 1006d. Newell 93 (T/cc, same dies). Rare. A beautiful. lustrous coin, well-struck and most attractive. Some minor die rust on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.
Bought privately from a European collector, who said his father had acquired it through Lanz in Graz in the 1980s.
