LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 340-330 BC. Distater (Silver, 26 mm, 15.85 g, 7 h), struck under the magistrates Ape.. and Ami... Bearded head of Leukippos to right, wearing a Corinthian helmet [ornamented with Nike driving a quadriga and a hippocamp]; behind neck to left, ΑΠΗ and forepart of a lion to right. Rev. ΜΕΤΑΠΟΝΤΙΝΩΝ Grain ear with leaf to left; above leaf, club; below leaf, ΑΜΙ. De Sartiges 42 (this coin). HN III 1574. Johnston Class B, 1.6 (same dies). Kraay & Hirmer 242. SNG ANS 430-1. Very charmingly toned with golden highlights, and with a particularly hard-to-find provenance. Reverse struck silghtly off-centre, otherwise, good very fine.
