KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.15 g, 2 h), posthumous, Lysimachia, circa 280-260. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right; behind, transverse spear to left without point; below Athena's extended hand, monograms of ΠΑ over AP; in the exergue, lion's head to left. Müller -. Thompson -. Struck from the same obverse die as Leu (Winterthur) e18, 2021, 253 (misidentified as a lifetime issue of Pella or Amphipolis, but with a pentagram over an ΑΡ monogram, and a lion's head left in the exergue) and Künker 97, 2005, 413 (as a posthumous issue of Lysimachia with an ΑΤΡ monogram, and a lion's head left and an ΑΡ monogram in the exergue - cited as close to SNG Berry 402, but with the upper monogram differently placed). A fascinating early posthumous issue, struck on a broad flan and impressive. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, extremely fine.
