KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. 1/5 Tetradrachm (Silver, 15.5 mm, 2.62 g, 3 h), struck in the time of Philip III, Damastion, circa 323/2-315. Head of Apollo to right, wearing taenia. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Youth on horseback to right; below, A and grasshopper. Le Rider 487 (D258/R401; Pella). SNG ANS -. SNG Copenhagen 576. Well centered, finely detailed and unusually attractive. Hairline flan crack, otherwise, extremely fine.

This enigmatic issue has been attributed by Le Rider to the mint of Pella, dated around 323-315 BC. Nevertheless, the style is atypical for the imperial mint of Pella and the head of Apollo is similar to ones on issues of the Paeonian kings, especially those of Audoleon. Assuming that is the case this coin can be assigned to Damastion .
