KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.96 g, 12 h), struck posthumously, Lampsakos in Mysia, circa 280-275. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; in the field to left, monogram of ΑΣΩ above the left-facing forepart of Pegasos over a torch. Price 1455 var. (but with the torch under the throne; for the monogram and symbols in the left field, see the gold stater, Price 1454). Beautifully centered and particularly attractive. Nearly extremely fine.
