CARTHAGE. Second Punic War. Circa 220-205 B.C. Æ. 5.96 gm. 20 mm. Mint on Sardinia. Struck circa 216-215 B.C. Wreathed head of Kore-Tanit left, wearing triple pendant earring / Bull standing right; star above. CNP 377. MAA -. SNG Copenhagen (Africa) 387-388 var. (Punic letters). Piras 186. Good Very Fine; glossy dark brown and green patina; struck on an irregular flan. The obverse portrait looks more like Hannibal, or another Barca family member, or the god Melkart (cf. Davissons Ltd. Auction 42:111) than it does like Tanit. Interesting to speculate that a die for his AR half-shekel (CNP 447; SNG Cop. 383) might have been overstruck on this Æ.
