KINGS of CHARACENE. Hyspaosines. Circa 128/7-124 BC. AR Tetradrachm (32mm, 16.34 g, 1h). Seleukia on the Tigris mint. Undated issue of SE 186 (127/6 BC). Diademed head right / Herakles seated left on rock, holding club on knee; monograms in exergue. Assar fig. 14; De Morgan –; BMC –; Sunrise –; Zeno 251038 (= CNG 114, lot 460) var. (second monogram). Toned. VF. Extremely rare.

Dr. Assar has suggested that the extreme rarity of this issue may be due to withdrawal from circulation and overstriking after the Parthian reconquest of Seleukeia. Dr. G.R.F.
