IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P VIII CENS PER P P , laureate head right / COS XIIII LVD SAEC FEC S C, Domitian standing left, holding patera over altar, harpist left; behind altar,flutist standing right, hexastyle temple with eagle in pediment in the background. RIC 623; BMCRE 434. Fine. An interesting and important historical type, commemorating the Secular Games celebrated by Domitian in October of 88 AD. The reverse sacrificial scene shows the togate emperor standing left, holding patera and sacrificing over garlanded altar, with harpist and double-flute player to left, all before hexastyle Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus in the background.
