UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Aurum Barbarorum. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 5.99 g, 1 h), 'Derived Gordian Group B'. NHCΛOIΛ[...]ИIΛCUIMIII Laureate and draped imperial head to right. Rev. H\NV IIVHVV Winged (?) female figure standing front, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and transverse spear in her left. Aurum Barbarorum II, 1881 (this coin). A lovely coin with a very charming reverse. Holed and with light scrapes, otherwise, very fine.
From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection, Leu 7, 25 October 2020, 1881.
Despite not being draped, this portrait bears resemblance to Aurum Barbarorum II, 1876-1877 and is cataloged under Group B accordingly. The reverse figure is a particularly wild mixture of the wings (?), dress and wreath of Victory and the upright transverse spear of an emperor.
