KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 17 mm, 8.59 g, 1 h), Teos, struck under Philip III, 323-319. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY Charioteer driving biga to right, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; below the horses, monogram of ΣΩ; in exergue, spear head to right. Le Rider pl. 91, 16 (same dies). Lustrous and fresh, a magnificent piece. Very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
