KWANGSI: Kuang Hsu, 1875-1908, AE 10 cash, ND (1905), KM-Pn1, CL-KH.01, CCC-560, Duan-2735, W-881, copper pattern issue, province name spelled KWANG-HSI, stylized Manchu mintmark in center, lovely glossy brown patina, tied for the second highest grade with only one example a grade higher, PCGS graded Specimen 62 BN, RRR. While the English and Chinese legends indicate Kwangsi (Guangxi) as the province, the Manchu characters do not read "boo gui" as expected, but might have been an attempt to spell out "boo hsi" by a foreign mint (possibly in Berlin). Woodward believes it to be a trial piece as he only knew of a unique example, though more examples have surfaced since then. In the end, no machine-struck coins were issued for circulation in this province during the Empire. All subsequent Republican issues render the province name as Kwang-sea or Kwang-si instead.
