NETHERLANDS: HOLLAND: Dutch Republic, AR double ducaton (piéfort) (65.14g), Amsterdam, 1672, KM-4, Dav-4929, Delmonte-1018a, a double thick issue of the silver rider type (zilveren rijder), variety with two rosettes on obverse, toned, a few small rim bumps, a lovely example of this large issue, EF. This type is also referred to as a double or piéfort ducaton. It was struck during the Franco-Dutch War (1672-74), supposedly from the melted down silverware of the citizens of Amsterdam.
