FRANCE: Republic, AE 5 centimes, 1889-A, KM-821.1, F-118.31, Gadoury-157a, attractive full strike with chocolate-brown color and prooflike or possibly proof surfaces; slabbed by ANACS in old-style "soapbox" holder (ca. 1995-2000) as PF 65 BRN, despite the fact that there are no readily searchable records validating the existence of 1889 proof (flan bruni) 5 centimes, ANACS graded Proof 65 BRN. It is plausible that proofs of this denomination do exist, as there are proofs known for silver and gold issues done for the 1889 International Exposition in Paris.
