Alfonso VI Counterstamped 250 Reis ND (1663) XF45 NGC, KM33.3, LMB-94. Type IV "Crowned 2S0" Counterstamp on 200 Reis from the Porto mint. A survivor of the minting experiments of King Pedro II, who repurposed the Cruzados and 1/2 Cruzados of Alfonso VI (his brother) and Joao IV (his father) in an attempt to reform hammered coins into milled types. For each type, Pedro minted new legends with the respective name of the king under whom the issues were first struck, which are nearly preserved in their entirety on the piece at hand. A bold counterstamp and clear mintmarks further position this specimen as a strong contender for type collectors of these curious issues.
