Jose I gold 3200 Reis 1756/2-R UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM183.2, cf. LMB-414 (unlisted overdate), cf. Guimaraes-1756/55-1. Possibly a 1756/2/4/5 overdate but without a doubt rendered from the same dies as two Gem overdates we brought to auction in 2011 and 2014, which realized $43,125 and $32,900, respectively, as well as the lesser XF40 Petropolis example, which brought $4,920 in November 2022. The noted cleaning is unfortunate, but certainly made up for in the clarity and consistency of the devices, which are bordered by soft saffron retone in the expanses. A clear standout in the already-challenging 3200 Reis series and deserving of bidding activity commensurate with that fact.
