THRACE, Mesambria. Circa 100-72/1 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30mm, 16.08 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Eupha(midas), magistrate. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; EYΦA and crested Corinthian helmet in inner left field. Price 1126; Karayotov 322 var. (O98/R– [unlisted rev. die]). Typical light roughness, small edge split, die break and slight doubling on obverse. Good VF.

Ex Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 301 (24 April 2013), lot 16.

Karayotov lists Price 1126 as his catalog number 848, but this is erroneous; Karayotov seems to have thought that all coin numbers in Price referred to actual coins in the BM. Thus, Karayotov often lists coins with no die numbers, referring to Price numbers as BM coins.
