Domitian, as Caesar (AD 69-81). AV aureus (20mm, 7.39 gm, 6h).  Rome, under Vespasian, AD 77-78. DOMITIANVS CAESAR AVG F, laureate head of Domitian right / COS V, she-wolf left, suckling infants Romulus and Remus, river boat below. RIC 960 (Vespasian). BMCRE 237-239 (Vespasian). Cohen 50. Calicó 820a. Slight reddish cast overall, consistent with the Boscoreale Hoard of 1895. Well struck in high relief, with considerable luster. NGC (photo-certificate) Choice AU 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style. From The Andre Constantine Dimitriadis Collection. Ex Stack's (New York, 3-4 December 1996), lot 328. A simply beautiful example of this famous type, depicting the legendary founders of Rome being nursed by their adoptive "mother," and the boat in which Romulus and Remus were cast adrift.
