Basiliscus and Marcus, Eastern Roman Emperors (AD 475-476). AV solidus (21mm, 4.44 gm, 6h). Constantinople, late Fall AD 475–August AD 476, D N bASILISCI ET MARC P AVG, pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust (of Basiliscus?) facing, head slightly right, holding spear over right shoulder and on left arm shield with horseman motif / VICTORI – A AVCCC H, Victory standing left, holding long jeweled cross; star in right field, CONOB in exergue. Ex Sotheby's (New York, 2 November 1998), lot 48. Basiliscus made his young son Marcus co-emperor in late 475, but it did nothing to shore up the regime. The coinage of the brief joint reign is quite rare in any condition.
