BITHYNIA. Apamea. Drusilla, Julia and Agrippina, sisters of Caligula (AD 37-41). Æ 33mm (13.35 gm, 12h). Struck AD 38. DIVÆ DRVSILLAE (Ds reverted) IVLIAEA AGRIPP-INAE, three female busts, draped, of Drusilla (left, facing right), Julia (center, facing) and Agrippina Jr. (right, facing left) / AGRIPPINA • C • CAESARIS • AVG • GERMANICI • MATER C I C, Agrippina Sr. seated left, veiled, holding patera in right hand, flanked by D - D (both reverted). RPC 2012. Extremely rare and seldom offered! Brown patina. Very Fine. This extraordinary issue of the Bithynian city of Apamea depicts four famous Roman women of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. The obverse has busts of Drusilla, Julia and Agrippina the Younger, the three sisters of Gaius 'Caligula,' while the reverse displays a seated figure of their mother, Agrippina the Elder, granddaughter of Augustus and wife of Germanicus. The three sisters are identified as goddesses (DIVAE), reflecting the Eastern provincial tradition of worshipping the Roman emperor, and, evidently, members of his household, as gods.

Estimate: 3500-4500 USD
