Vespasian (AD 69-79). Orichalcum sestertius (33mm, 25.72 gm, 6h). Rome, AD 71. IMP CAES VESPAS AVG P M TR P P P COS III, laureate head of Vespasian right / PAX AVGVS S - C, Pax standing left, holding olive branch in right hand and cornucopia cradled in left arm. RIC 243 variant (legend ends AVGVSTI). BMCRE 555 (same). Green-brown patina, lightly smoothed in fields. Otherwise Good Very Fine. This coin seems to lack the last two letters TI in the reverse legend PAX AVGVSTI. While there is some evident smoothing in the fields, it would appear to be too little to remove two letters entirely in a legend that is otherwise well struck.
