Republic copper Essai 40 Centavos 1879, KM-E4a, CJ-26.2, SP65 Brown PCGS. Gem Mint State with very attractive chocolate toning with occasional blue and gold hues. Prior to the adoption in 1881 of the decimal Peso as the monetary standard, several patterns were made in 1878 and 1879, mostly by Charles Wurden or Fabricio Zuccotti. Most are rare with the exception being the 1 and 2 Centavos pieces. The present specimen is perhaps the finest known of its type.Ex: Pittman collection (Akers 8/1999, lot 3343).
