Victoria Specimen 10 Cents 1872-H, Heaton mint, KM3, SP67 PCGS. Sheathed in a rich blanket of tone on both sides with iridescent blue coloration around a portion of the obverse legends and dusky rose and orange-peach in the centers. Similarly toned on the reverse, only deeper in hue and with more blue-green mixed in. Very likely coming from the same set as the 1872-H Specimen quarter in this sale, with a color palette that appears too similar to be just coincidence. A tiny freckle, apparently a strike-through of some sort, is the only perceptible imperfection, with the surfaces that appear otherwise pristine. Like all the Specimen strikings of 1872, thought to exist today in numbers around 5-7 pieces, with an original mintage that was in all likelihood around 10. To date, PCGS has recorded seven submissions with NGC having seen none. Not surprisingly, the present Superb Gem is the lone finest graded, thus creating a singular opportunity for the collector that demands the finest. Estimate: 12000-15000 USD
