Newfoundland. Victoria Specimen 5 Cents 1896, London mint, KM2, SP65 PCGS. Reeded Edge - Medal Alignment. Gold and green color intermingle to create the obverse tone while more vibrant iridescent shades consisting of maroon, blue, and yellow patina comprise the reverse. Although deeply toned, also obviously cameoed with motif to field contrast that remains clearly evident. Wispy die polish lines (as made), much of it easily mistakable as careless handling, horizontally traverses the obverse fields. A true rarity in this format with an original mintage of likely no more than 8-10 pieces and a surviving population perhaps half that. From The Prager Collection of Canadian Specimen Coins
