Newfoundland. Victoria Pattern Specimen Cent 1864, London mint, NF-18, Bowman-26, SP66 Red and Brown PCGS. Plain Edge - Medal Alignment. The earliest dated coinage of Newfoundland, and the finest example of this type that we have seen, with the intricately defined strike that one would expect from a special striking and glowing orange-red surfaces that exhibit a flashy blend of iridescent rose-magenta and green patina when viewed beneath a light. Almost identical to the adopted design with the only variance being the earlier date. As such, thought to have been offered as part of the 1864-65 specimen sets, as 1865-dated Specimens of the adopted design don't appear to have been made. Tied for the finest known example at PCGS.From The Prager Collection of Canadian Specimen Coins
