Newfoundland. Victoria Pattern Specimen Cent 1865, London mint, NF-7, Bowman-27, SP64 Red and Brown PCGS. Plain Edge - Coin Alignment. Mostly brown in the obverse centers with a thin halo of original red color around the peripheries and much red on the reverse. A curious type, the design is essentially a muling of the obverse for the circulating coinage of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, paired with a reverse for the Newfoundland pattern cents of 1864 that were made without extra leaves at the top of the wreath. Extremely challenging in any form, the PCGS census reflects only three certified examples in all grades with the present piece being the only one to receive the Red Brown designation. From The Prager Collection of Canadian Specimen Coins
