Newfoundland. Edward VII lead Uniface Trial 10 Cents 1903, London mint, NF-21, SP60 PCGS. Charlton plate coin. Produced toward the end of the die preparation process when the mint was attempting to confirm the soundness of the design. Because of the softness of the medal, and therefore the relatively ease of producing a full impression, lead was a favorite metal for the execution of this task. Accomplished on broad flan, the present piece perfectly centers the design with numerous concentric rings at the outer edges that remain native to the planchet. Light marks, not altogether surprising considering the metal, are visible, but are much less prevalent than one might expect for the grade. All in all, a fascinating relic of the coining process and an item without duplication. From The Prager Collection of Canadian Specimen Coins

Estimate: 2000-3000 USD
