Chile
Republic copper Pattern 50 Centavos 1867, KM-Pn12, PR64 Brown NGC. Pleasing deep brown surfaces with razor sharp details and flashes of orange luster in the recessed design areas. A rare pattern for the regular coinage which began in 1867: defects in the previous style (popularly known as the "pechugon" in Latin American numismatic circles) prompted the Chilean Government to commission new dies from James B. Longacre and the resulting design was used between 1867 and 1894 in various denominations, the last being a 10 Centavos (or 1 Decimo) coin. The Farouk-Pittman Proof set of 1867-1868 included an example in silver of this same coin.  Ex: Whittier (Heritage Auctions 6/2006, lot 16580 for $604) and Tarapaca (Heritage Auctions 9/2011, lot 23854 for $1,725).

Estimate: 1000-1250 USD
